Shop Activities

(See photos of past activities below)

Beginning February 2021, through a partnership with the Hudson River Maritime Museum (HRMM), Mid-Hudson Woodworkers (MHW) has access to the museum's Riverport Wooden Boat School shop (86 Rondout Landing, Kingston, which is next door to the museum) at scheduled times (currently Mondays from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm). The shop sessions consist of classes and member led projects. All sessions are led by members and are tuition free. In some cases a materials fee may be charged.

Check our Calendar for upcoming classes.

Note: In addition to classes we have a number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that meet monthly focused on specific areas of interest. Visit our SIG page for more information or check our calendar.

As this is a 100% volunteer effort, its success hinges on members willing to convey their knowledge to other members. Over time we hope all shop participants will eventually lead projects.

To participate on Monday nights you must live in the Mid-Hudson region and be a member of the Northeastern Woodworkers Association (NWA), our parent organization. Once you join NWA you automatically become a member of MHW. Dues is $60/year and you can join on the NWA Membership page.

To attend the wood shop you must also be a member of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. NWA members can join HRMM at the discounted rate of $15/year by selecting “Partner Org - NWA Individual” on the HRMM Enrollment page.

Your HRMM Membership Benefits include:

You need to read and follow the shop safety manual which is available as a PDF file. You’ll also need to sign a waiver on your first day.

Shop sessions are listed on our MHW Monthly Calendar. Space is limited so advance sign-up is required. Once you become a member you will be added to the email list and receive notifications. Follow instructions in the email to sign up.
