Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

We have a number of Special Interest Groups that have meetings to share information and do work related to their particular area of interest. Please contact the SIG leader if you would like more information. All are welcome to attend these meetings.

Kaatskill Woodturners
The Kaatskill Woodturners Association (KWA) is a special interest group of the Northeastern Woodworkers Association. We are also an affiliate chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. KWA meetings are open without charge to all NWA members.

  • We meet monthly for demonstrations of woodturning techniques: the second Wednesday evening during daylight savings or the second Saturday morning during normal daylight hours. Our schedule is also posted on https://app.groupworks.com/#/groups/996/posts.
  • Learn and Turn sessions are available with experienced woodturners on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings each week.

Community Service Group
Meetings are twice a month at the home/shop of Fred DuBois in New Paltz. Currently the group is working on toy parts for our Toy Factory booth at the NWA Showcase woodworkers show in Saratoga Springs held each year in March. Check our calendar for dates. Email Fred if you would like to attend and help build the toy parts.

Scroll Saw Group

  • Everyone is welcome - from beginners to experts
  • Meetings are held at the Riverport Wooden Boat School and are announced via email and posted on our calendar
  • Discuss ongoing projects, share tips on scroll saw related topics: Fretwork, 3D Scrolling, Intarsia and much more

Luthier Group

Hand Tools Group
This group focuses on all aspects of use and care of hand tools. Improve your skills, learn new techniques. Check our calendar for dates.

Crafters Group
Get together with other woodworkers and work on projects to help non-profits, kids and other organizations in need of woodworking help. Date for the first meeting will be posted on our calendar this fall.
